Desktop Displays Ltd (company number 17484337) decides how your personal data is used, which makes us its controller under UK data protection law. Contact us about your data at support@desktopdisplays.co.uk.
What we collect, and why
| Data | Why we use it | Lawful basis |
|---|---|---|
| Your name, email address and sign-in details | To create your account and let you sign in | Contract |
| Your delivery address and order details | To deliver your device and keep records of the sale | Contract, and legal obligation for tax records |
| Your devices, their names and what they're set to show (such as an airport or station) | To show the boards you've chosen | Contract |
| When each device last connected | To show you the device's status and to help with support | Legitimate interests |
| IP addresses and technical logs | To keep the service running and secure | Legitimate interests |
| Emails you send us | To answer your questions | Legitimate interests |
| Your email address and name, if you ask for marketing emails | To send you news and offers about DesktopDisplays | Consent |
We don't collect your card details, because Stripe processes payments. Your Wi-Fi name and password stay on the device and are never sent to us. The device has no camera or microphone.
Marketing emails
We only send you news and offers if you've asked for them. Signing up is always your choice: it's never chosen for you, and you can buy without signing up. Offers are based on what you've bought from us, such as the boards your device shows or when its live data is due for renewal.
You can stop them at any time, free of charge: use the unsubscribe link in any marketing email, or email support@desktopdisplays.co.uk. Unsubscribing doesn't affect your account or the emails we need to send you about your order or device, such as receipts.
Who we share it with
We share data only with companies that help us run the service, and only what they need:
- Auth0 (Okta), for sign-in. Auth0 may process data in the United States, under UK-approved safeguards.
- Microsoft Azure, for hosting our website, database and servers, in the UK and the EU.
- Stripe, for payments.
- Our delivery courier, for delivering your device.
- An email service provider acting on our behalf, for sending marketing emails, if you've asked for them. It can only use your details to send our emails.
We never sell your data. The flight and train data providers we use never receive anything about you.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data while you have an account. If you close your account, we delete your account and device data within 30 days [confirm]. We keep order and payment records for 6 years, because tax law requires it. If you unsubscribe from marketing emails, we stop using your details for marketing straight away, and keep only your email address on a list of people not to email.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, or ask us to correct it, delete it, or stop using it. You can also object to how we use it. Email support@desktopdisplays.co.uk and we'll reply within one month. Where we rely on your consent, such as for marketing emails, you can withdraw it at any time. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If the change is significant, we'll email you.
